Challenge is to Connect Billion Population living in Rural Areas

Private operators are not interested in extending their network to the rural areas mainly on account of factors such as

(i) low Average Revenue per User (ARPU)
(ii) high capital investments
(iii) high operational costs, mainly for security and power.

  • Also taking fiber to each and every Gram Panchayat is a time consuming task and as of now only 30 thousand has been connected with fiber out of 2 lakh 50 thousand.

  • Even with government initiatives like NOFN, the fibre will reach only to the GP location and not to the villages under it. Thus, cost effective solutions will be required to extend broadband coverage to each of 6,40,000 villages of India.
